WILD DUCK CREEK
Established in 1969 in the foothills of the Australian Pyrenees, Taltarni have long been recognised as one of the great names in Australian winemaking. The low-yielding gravel soils and temperate climate of the region combine to produce wines of great structure and elegance. The Three Monks Cabernet / Merlot has delicious plum fruit flavours that screams out ‘drink me!’ while the Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz are substantial beasts that are both aged in French and American oak for 18 – 24 months. The red soil and cooler climate results in both wines having a concentration as well as structure that gives them an almost French ‘gout de terroir’. Both will either drink now or cellar for some years to come. If you are a lover of big, rich chocolate-monster Shiraz then the Heathcote Shiraz is a must!
Lark Hill winery was established in 1978 and Dr David and Sue Carpenter are now enjoying considerable acclaim throughout Australia. James Halliday gave their 2001 Chardonnay 95/100. Aged in French oak this wine is full of power yet retains an elegance that you would expect from cool climate Chardonnay. The Cabernet/Merlot has ripe berry fruit flavours overlaid with sweet vanilla tannins from its 18 months in barrel. The Pinot Noir is full of sweet strawberry and cherry flavours.
STANTON AND KILLEEN Stanton & Killeen Winery was established in 1875 and is family owned and operated. They are famous for their Liqueur Muscat which is produced from Muscat a Petit Grain Rouge. A superb after dinner drink.
