BROOKFORD ESTATE

A new contemporary pair of Australian wines from the Riverina region in New South Wales.  Big River country, where the drip irrigated vineyards of the Riverina are planted, is crisscrossed with brooks and streams.  Dry for most of the year these are easily crossed as they rarely run very deep, even in the rainy season.  Made by the young and talented winemaker, Sam Trimboli, these characterful wines show upfront fruit, well defined structure and excellent body.

WIRRA WIRRA WINERY

First established in 1900 by Robert Strangeways Wrigley, Wira Wirra’s cellars in the McLaren Vale fell into disuse until bought by Greg and Roger Trott in 1969. Now rated by the great Australian wine pundit, James Halliday, as one of his six most exciting wineries, the wines of Wirra Wirra go from strength to strength and are renowned for five main attributes: ripeness, elegance, structure, power and complexity.

GRANT BURGE - Barossa Valley

Grant Burge’s unoaked  Chardonnay has superb tropical fruit and comes from his own Barossa Valley fruit. He is now the largest private landowner in the area, but never makes any sacrifice in the quality of his wine making. The Barossa Vines Shiraz is a classic: packed with ripe hedgerow fruits - as indeed is the Grant Burge ‘Old Vine Shiraz’, his ‘black monster’ flagship wine: quite, quite stunning, his Merlot is a rich  voluptuous red  a really attractive wine.  The Holy Trinity, launched in 2000 at York Minster by the Archbishop of York, has proved an enormous success and is a blend of classic Rhône varieties: Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro.

Stickies

Grant Burge’s 10 Year Old Tawny is made from Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro aged in oak quarter casks under the solero system and makes a delicious summer aperitif or digestive.  Hollick made its first botrytised wine in 1985 and now has something of a reputation for this style.  The 2004 is a luscious wine with intense honey and citrus flavours with a fresh finish.
