Eagle's Cliff - Breede River A stunning range of wines from Christiaan Groenewald in the Breede River Valley. The superb, appley Chenin Blanc is the best value white wine that we list at this price. The Reserve range of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier are astonishing: the Sauvignon Blanc has classic almost French elegance and the Viognier is the best example of this aromatic grape I have come across at such a low price, combining richness with fine acidity.
Christiaan’s reds are equally fine, with a soft Merlot/Cabernet that has good blackberry fruit with underpinning soft oak. The Reserve Shiraz is full of complex plummy fruit. I am not normally a huge fan of Pinotage but the entry point Eagle’s Cliff Pinotage is packed with soft jammy black fruit.
Our first South African Shiraz Rosé is made from the free-run juice of the Shiraz grape with delicious red berry fruit and a crisp, dry finish. Just awarded a coveted Veritas Gold medal. We just can't ship this wine over fast enough!
Paul Cluver - Elgin ![]() The Cluver family make some of the most intriguing aromatic wines in South Africa and are always lauded in Platter’s Wine Guide. Close to the Southern tip of the Cape at Hermanus, the region’s cool climate means that they are ideally suited for the varieties below. The view from the top of the vineyard is reminiscent of the Spey Valley and you can see why the first settlers called it Elgin.New this list comes the astonishing Noble Late Harvest Riesling that John Platter named as one of his coveted 5star wines in 2007. Jordan Estate - Stellenbosch
Gary and Kathy Jordan
are undoubtedly two of the greatest winemakers in South
Africa. Their 134 hectares of vineyards stretch up over the Stellenbosch Kloof.
The elegant entry point Bradgate Chenin/Sauvignon and
Syrah, are both well crafted wines as is the rich, full-bodied Jordan Syrah. Their classic Sauvignon Blanc has long between considered one of South
Africa’s finest, and the wooded Chenin makes an attractive addition with
citrus fruit combining with creamy, spicy oak, and the massive
Nine Yards Chardonnay puts many a Côte d’Or burgundy to
shame. Don’t miss the big unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot,
both classic examples of the winemaker’s art and the ‘Cobbler’s Hill ’ is
simply sensational; made from the best selection of all their vines, it has
unbelievable structure. The delightful
Mellifera botrytis Riesling is an a must for pudding wine aficionados.
