Barbeito
The small
house of Barbeito was founded in 1946 by Mario Barbeito, and is run today by his
grandson, Ricardo de Freitas. Since Ricardo took over in 1991, he has
concentrated on recreating the authentic styles of Madeira, naturally aged in
casks by the Canteiro method. His Madeiras all display a complexity and
vibrance that that take the breath away. Superb with food, and if you want a
supper party with a difference, you can plan an entire menu around a selection
of these Madeiras. Just make sure you aren't driving!
