BORDEAUX ROUGE

  •  Bordeaux et environs

At the entry point level, the excellent Château Carmes-Cantiollac is a stylish,
elegant wine from a good year. The beautifully crafted
Château Nardou is another
wine from the Dubard stable. Owned by Serge Dubard’s younger brother Florent
(who has left his medical practice and wife in Paris to start afresh in Bordeaux)
this wine is made under the careful supervision of Serge; a wine of classic depth,
good structure and delicious black fruit with assertive but smooth tannins.

  •   Saint-Émilion & Pomerol

Two wines not to miss: Château la Claymore in Lussac St-Émilion makes a medal-winning
red that is beautifully structured wine with masses of fruit and extract - and their second wine
Cadet de Claymore
is astonishingly good for the price - softer, but still very fine with a subtle
blackcurrant bouquet, and improving year on year. The elegant Château Lamour comes from
a tiny grand cru estate and is made from 70% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Clos del’Eglise from Lalande de Pomerol is just sublime – one of the stars on the
list: a vinous iron fist in a velvet glove!

  •  Médoc

Château Beauregard, from the Graves, is a smooth wine with supple red fruit flavours.
Château Beaumont
has long been a favourite in this country and comes from the same
stable as Château Beychevelle, producing clarets of elegance and complexity at a very reasonable price.
Also from the Château Beychevelle stable comes Amiral de Beychevelle, the second label of
Beychevelle and makes very soft, approachable wines. Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of
Château Lagrange, and produces wines of excellent depth and concentration for a second label.
The superb wines of Château Potensac, a Médoc of real class from the Delon family. The Réserve de la Contesse
2004
is the second label of 2nd growth superstar Château Comtesse de Lalande and exudes true class.
