AUSTRIA

These exciting wines were new on our list in 2007. From Austria’s Burgenland wine region, Kaiser Garten Gruner Veltliner is the best value example of this dry but aromatic grape variety that I have ever tasted. Their Kaiser Garten ‘Kaiser Cuvée’ Trockenbeerenauslese, with its intensed botrytised characteristics, exemplifies why Austria has been long considered one of the finest producers of pudding wine in the world.

2005 Kaiser Garten Gruner Veltliner  Trocken
Price: £5.49 Bin No. AS02

2004/05 Kaiser Garten ‘Kaiser Cuvée’  Trockenbeerenauslese
Price: £11.98 Bin No. DW11

HUNGARY

The result of the unique Aszú winemaking process is a unique and splendid wine. The number of Puttonyos of Aszú grapes added to the base wine indicate not only the fine and sumptuous quality of each Tokaji Aszú wine but also, in the finest vintages, will determine the keeping quality of the wines which will keep for generations. In the past decade, the best vintages are the outstanding 1993 and also 1999. Crown Estates 5 puttonyos Tokaji Aszú from 1993 was awarded a 5 star rating in a Decanter tasting in 1999.

2000 Crown Estates  Tokaji Aszú, 5 Puttonyos (25cl)
 Price: £10.99
